Food production today is more than just growing fruits and vegetables. Agriculture accounts for more than half the land usage in the United States and provides food security to millions. However it relies on natural resources that are very sensitive to pollution, climate change, rising populations around the world, and other various factors. Farmland is endangered from the erosion and decline of quality of the land due to dangerous outside conditions that can destroy crops and endanger workers. The complete effects on agriculture will depend on the ability for farmers to adapt and do more with less.
Currently our future depends on digital agriculture. Digital agriculture is the seamless integration of digital technologies into crop and livestock management and other processes in agriculture. As reported in the Bank’s journal What’s Cooking: Digital Transformation of the Agri-food System “The digital agriculture revolution holds a promise to build an agriculture and food system that is efficient, environmentally sustainable, and equitable, one that can help deliver the Sustainable Development Goals.” We here at Poseidon HydroTech plan to take this one step further and put the control in the consumer hands as well. Our home gardening system not only benefits you, it also benefits the environment and our food economy.
The team has designed a system that uses less to produce more. This system is compromised of many components to monitor different aspects of the plant while growing in a closed system by itself. The system works in conjunction with special fertilizers, nutrients, and soil that are sustainable to ensure the plants are fed properly and appropriately. The team has spent years in data gathering and research to support this technology using multiple strains of a single plant and more.
